Free Energy International bv is a project oriented private enterprise, focusing on offering their expertise in the field of solar electricity to interested companies, governmental organisations and institutions.
The president of Free Energy International is Peter van der Vleuten, who has an extensive background in solar electricity:
" As president of Free Energy Europe he gained experience with the development, manufacture and worldwide marketing of thin film silicon modules, while his presidency of Free Energy International involved him in strategy and finance in the field of solar electricity, as well as in joint research and development projects. As chairman of the Free Energy Foundation, Peter´s focus has been on awareness campaigns and dealer support in rural areas in developing countries. He has been involved in work on VLS-PV for desert applications from the beginning, some 8 years ago, and has enjoyed contributing significantly to the IEA PVPS Task 8 project, being eager to see the first gigawatt projects appear, which he believes could take place much earlier than many people have expected*. "
In addition to their work in International Energy Agency, PhotoVoltaic Power Systems Task 8 (IEA PVPS Task 8), Free Energy International is also co-founder and director for solar electricity issues in the Global Network for Renewable Energy Approaches in Desert Regions (GN READER) and member of the Observatoire Méditerranéen de l´energie, Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development Committee (OME RESDC).
In the field of R & D, Free Energy International is the formal coordinator of the EUREKA MYCRYSTAL project; this includes the "development of a proof of principle for a new process technology for solar cells based on thin films of silicon, to reduce the cost of photovoltaic cells while maintaining similar conversion efficiencies".
